Meet the Judges

Kim Levis
This is my third year as a judge. I am a former winner (2010) and finalist of the competition. I have been singing nearly all my life. I started voice lessons at 7 and piano at 8. I have been part of many ensembles and choirs including South County Honors Choir in North Carolina and the Maryland Select Honors Choir. I have a degree in Music Education from Radford University with a concentration in vocal performance and elementary education. I also have an English degree from Penn State.  I love all genres of music, especially metal and classical.
Ryan Lower
Clearly, I did something right in 2016, because I was asked to come back and judge for State College Singing Sensation 2017! My background in music comes from my experiences in Penn State Glee Club and University Choir, where I learned from some of the most incredible choral directors one could ask for. Through them, I developed a keen love for singing and was eventually introduced to the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity by some fellow singers. As a Sinfonian, I developed a deep sense of pride in making beautiful music with wonderful people, and it was also through one of the brothers that I was first introduced to karaoke. Through karaoke, I’ve improved as a vocalist, and more importantly, met so many incredible people, and it even led to a stint as the lead vocalist and frontman for former State College hard rock band No Chump Change. I feel I have a good ear for vocal quality, and a great awareness of what makes for a stellar performance, and I look forward to judging this competition and helping all of the competitors to further themselves as musicians!
Matt Brasavage
By day, Matt is a salaried man for a major company. By night, he is a rockstar! Matt is no stranger to the stage.  He has worked with various troupes from Northeast PA including the MPB Players, The Grove Theatre, and the Pennsylvania Theatre of the Performing Arts.  Previous roles he has portrayed include the Tour Guide and Mr. Appopolus in Wonderful Town, Matthew in Godspell, Trapper John in M*A*S*H, The Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, and the antagonist St. Jimmy in American Idiot.  Matt has also been a part of the Penn State: Hazleton Choir, has performed in numerous concerts and musical revues. He was a Finalist in the State College Idol 2015 contest as well as the State College Idol Winner in 2016.  Recently, Matt was a featured artist with Lady Grey’s Lovelies during their Rockabilly Rebels cabaret in May. Matt enjoys running, singing, and being an all-around boss at life!  He is ready to see what talent State College has to offer as he takes his new role at the Judges’ Table.
